The Interview Scheduler is a web based software application
which will be used by the Human Resource department of the organization to
schedule an interview between an appropriate interviewer and a suitable
candidate.The application offers great flexibility to both, the interviewers
and the recruiters concerned in the process of scheduling the interview.
The interviewers can book their free interview slots via the application
thereby avoiding any conflicts with their daily chores. Similarly, the
recruiter has been provided with the flexibility to search a particular
interviewer for an interview with respect to his grade, designation,
department, time of availability, location expertise, etc. Thus the system
would offer the recruiter the best possible alternatives as far scheduling of
the interview is concerned.
Besides these, the system also allows the user to view the status of a
scheduled interview. In case of unexpected eventuality, the recruiter can
re-schedule or even close a particular interview. The user can also use the
system to allot a minimum number of interview slots for a particular
interviewer for a particular month and so on, so that the organization can meet
its recruitment targets.
An high end authority can view a detailed description about the interview slots
allotted, interviews conducted, etc pertaining to employees belonging to a
particular department, grade, designation, etc using a Management Information
System (MIS).
Currently the system used by Mastek for scheduling interviews is completely
manual and so inefficient that some of the Mastekeers (the Mastek employees)
have termed it as a pathetic system.
The recruiters from the H.R. department of Mastek are responsible for
scheduling of interviews. The recruiters currently maintain a Microsoft Excel
spreadsheet which contains a list of all interviewers and their respective
expertise. So, whenever a recruiter wants to schedule an interview, he browses
through the Excel spreadsheet and tries to find an appropriate interviewer for
a particular candidate. Once he selects an interviewer, he phones him and
enquires about his availability for a given time on a given day. If the
selected interviewer turns-down the request, the recruiter then has to once
again go through the Excel spreadsheet for selecting another interviewer. On
the other hand, if an interviewer is available for a particular day and time,
the candidate may not be available for the same time. So the process continues
until the recruiter is able to find a suitable interviewer for a candidate.
As we can make out, the system currently in use has the following

Thus, the system currently in use for scheduling interviews results in wastage of the recruiters time and makes the process very inefficient.
